Choosing the Right Water Temperature

Choosing the Right Water Temperature

Great coffee doesn't have to be complicated.

While water temperature plays an important role in brewing, you don't need expensive equipment to make a delicious cup.

For most drip coffees, 91–93°C is the sweet spot. It brings out the coffee's natural sweetness, balance and aroma without making the cup taste overly bitter or sour.

No thermometer? No problem.

Simply let freshly boiled water rest for about one minute before pouring. It's an easy habit that makes a noticeable difference.

Why temperature matters

Different temperatures bring out different flavours in your coffee.

Too hot (95°C+)

  • Can taste more bitter
  • May overpower delicate flavours

Just right (91–93°C)

  • Balanced sweetness
  • Fuller aroma
  • Smooth, well-rounded cup

Too cool (below 90°C)

  • May taste sour or under-extracted
  • Less sweetness and body

Our recommendation

Every Sneaky Beans coffee is a little different. For the best cup, simply follow the recommended brewing temperature printed on each drip bag.

If you don't have a temperature-controlled kettle, simply bring your water to a boil, wait about a minute, and you're ready to brew.

Sometimes, the smallest adjustments make the biggest difference.
